Eligo: Customer Sign Up
Project Overview
Problem to Solve
Eligo Energy is an independent energy reseller. They sell to both residential and commercial customers. Their goal was to update their previous website and streamline the customer sign up process.
Eligo Energy’s original site had a cumbersome sign up process and very few “calls to action” (CTA). They needed to streamline the sign up process and add new ways to encourage users to sign up.
Process
Research
This wasn’t normal user research, my research was more focused on Eligo’s requirements. I studied the user sign up flows and learned as much as I could about the regulations around sign up. I studied their analytics to learn where they suffered most of their bounces from. Lastly, I looked at all their pages from their marketing website and tried to find all the additional places I could a CTA.
Design
This was a fun project to design. My experience was mainly in SAAS applications for construction project management, so this role offered a chance to focus on marketing design. Eligo wanted a clean, minimalistic design, luckily that’s my style.
If a user started the sign up process it was my goal to keep the user focused on the task at hand by removing anything that did not directly contribute to the user filling out the form.
When I did the screens Eligo didn’t require specific user flows, I put together a pdf of screens with interaction notes to help their developers build the site correctly.
Results
I removed all unnecessary information and graphics from the sign up pages. I made them as minimalistic as possible to focus the user’s attention on the form fields. I also broke up the process into 4 steps. Lastly, I intentionally only gave the user an escape route on the last step, the confirmation page.
Business Impact
After the updated site went live they saw an increase in conversions and a decrease in their bounce rates.

Outcomes
Visual Designs
Note: the images in the designs are not the final images. Their marketing department wanted to use their own final artwork. I added these to point them in a certain direction.
Home Screen
I tried to make the home screen feel inviting and chose images with a sense of happiness. I also had consistent CTA’s wherever it made sense.
Zip Code Roadblock
When user tries to Sign Up or Get Rates they will be blocked and forced to enter a zip code to verify if they are eligible to sign up. Also, rates varied by location.
About Us
How it Works
Eligo had a page that explains what they do and how they do it. All throughout the page I had multiple CTA’s, but not too many to annoy the user.
Eligo Availability
Zip Code Comparison
A user enters their zip code & their current energy provider Eligo shows possible savings.
Sign Up: Step 1
When the user starts the sign up process I broke ups the steps to make sure it didn’t feel overwhelming. I also only gave the user one “escape route,” the logo which returns to the website.
Sign Up: Step 2
These sign up steps feel like wireframes because they are. When I did wireframes the client liked the simplicity so much I kept them and just added a little color
